Is your household Internet plan ‘future proof’?

If there’s one thing we can say for sure about Australians’ use of the Internet, it’s simply that it is growing quickly, and will continue to increase exponentially in the next couple of years.   Various factors are driving increased Internet usage: A continued growth in online browsing and shopping More people are running home offices, either as a standalone business or as part of their everyday work We are increasingly streaming more and more music and video content at home Online games with high definition video content is becoming the norm Most of us use more than one device at [...]

Is the NBN fit for Australian businesses?

Australian business owners know the importance of a stable Internet connection. The promise of the National Broadband Network (NBN) rolling out across the country suggested this need would be met with secure, fast and reliable connectivity. However, every week it’s another headline about the NBN and it generally isn’t particularly reassuring news. As businesses often have Internet usage requirements greater than home users, particularly bandwidth and reliability, they may find that researching options beyond the NBN for their technological and cloud-based application needs, time well spent.   Did you know that your business has an alternative to the NBN? At Spirit [...]

‘What I learned from Pivot Summit 2017’

We caught up with our Infrastructure Manager, Shaun Harrison, after the Pivot Summit last week to hear all about the event. Read what Shaun had to say about the Summit, Steve Wozniak, and the digital future below.     I was lucky enough to attend the 2017 Pivot Summit in Geelong on the 8th of December, representing Spirit as a Bronze Sponsor and WiFi partner. For everyone who couldn’t attend, I’ve put together my top 5 highlights. 1. Federal Mills Business Park is a stunning venue First up, I need to comment on the amazing work done by Cam Hamilton and [...]

Hey Geelong – Did you hear us on the radio?

Hey Geelong! Did you catch our radio interview on Bay FM’s Lifestyle segment last week? Oh no, you missed it? That’s okay, we have it here for you.   Roxie Bennett was excited to talk to our Managing Director, Geoff Neate, about the Spirit Network that is expanding in Geelong. She was surprised to learn that there is a choice – Spirit’s independent network is a genuine alternative to the NBN. We offer Super Fast speeds from 25Mbps up to 200Mbps for residential apartments, and from 50Mbps up to a whopping 1Gbps for businesses*. We call this Serious Internet. [...]

Do I Have To Switch To The NBN?

I need the Internet. Do I have to switch to the NBN? There’s a lot of interest in the NBN currently, and with good reason. Australia has put up with slow Internet for far too long, and with an increasing desire to access a genuinely fast service, especially for streaming TV and music at home, or downloading and uploading large files at work, this has become a priority for many people. But the NBN is most definitely NOT the only way to access the Internet. In fact, Spirit has just been independently rated as Melbourne’s fastest Internet Provider[1]. So how has [...]

What Makes The Spirit Network “Different. Better.”

Well for a start our network is not the NBN. And that’s a good thing for you! Yes, you really do have an alternative to the NBN, and it’s a great one.   Sorting Through The Confusion There’s a lot of uncertainty in the Internet market in Australia about who does what. In particular, no one is quite sure what the NBN actually is, and who the ever-growing group of resellers are. Just exactly who is selling what, and is it actually any good? Australia is entering a new era of Internet usage based on a mixture of fibre, copper, wireless [...]

We’re Serious About Internet

Spirit Managing Director, Geoff Neate, spoke to Telecom Times last week about who Spirit is; and who we want to be in the High Speed Internet market. Geoff committed that we're not here to take on the NBN. We're a genuine alternative to the NBN, and we work to deliver the amazing speeds Australia deserves. "Where we go, where we enter into a particular market, be it a building or geographic expansion, we’re going to go in with a strategy that allows us to win. We win by providing better Internet - Serious Internet." What It Means To Have "Serious Internet" The [...]

Triptych apartments in Southbank, Melbourne in collaboration with Spirit Telecom has now made up to 200Mbps Internet available to each resident in their prestigious high rise building. Spirit has lifted the ‘how fast is fast?’ argument to a new level with the introduction of the 200Mbps unlimited fibre optic plan. As ‘smart’ network enabled devices continue to demand additional bandwidth, this new Internet speed benchmark has enabled Triptych residents to enjoy the fastest Internet available and future proof their building with speeds twice that of the NBN. Recently installed, residents are already enjoying the benefits of speeds of up to 200Mbps. [...]

High Speed Fibre Internet = Increased Property Value?

A hot topic that has gotten people talking lately centres on the proposition that high Internet speed or more specifically Fibre Internet, increases property value. Research in the US and the UK highlights the positive correlation between the two. When google launched its gigabit Fibre service in July 2012, Google Access General Manager announced that a direct Fibre Optic connection to a home will improve the home value by between USD2,000 – USD5,000. A recent study by Wichita State University noted that “Kansas City housing market is clearly on the rebound” and that home values were expected to rise 2.7 percent in 2014, [...]
